Choosing Upvc Window Replacement Hinges

These hinges can be fitted to traditional side-hung frames made from uPVC, or aluminium. The friction screw is used to adjust the resistance. This makes opening the windows more simple and reduces the chance of accidental closing during strong winds. Fire-Escape Hinge
Fire Escape Hinges (also called "Easy Clean") are used to replace windows with side openings to ensure fire safety. These types of window hinges open more wide and faster than standard hinges to allow a large clear opening to escape in the case of a fire. Building regulations require that this kind of hinge has to be set in any room that has windows.
They have a unique friction stay that allows the window to be opened to an angle of 90 degrees. It also allows the opening sash to slide across when open to make it easy to clean the exterior side of the glass, without having to use ladders. The hinges do not have catch or buttons and are operated with a simple, secure lever that is accessible from the inside of the home.

It is important to note that the measurement is taken from the part that fixes to the frame, not the sash. The actual hinge length could be shorter or larger based on the manufacturer of your old windows. When deciding on the width of the hinge, most upvc frames will fit with a height of 13mm, but if your old window frame is 17mm, then select this option. You can also opt for the 4mm packer to compensate for the difference. All hinges are in two different directions (1 left and one right). Screws are not included with the hinges. If required, these screws can be purchased separately. We recommend using our Upvc window hinge repair screws. These screws are designed to enhance your hinges' performance and allow them work effortlessly for a longer. They have a lower friction design and an improved weather seal that is fitted with a new nylon reducer cap.
Restricted Hinge
There are instances when windows must completely open, and this can be a problem with a standard hinge. The restricted child safety friction hinges help to overcome this problem and provide a solution when ventilation is required but access to clean up or escape in the event of fire is not possible. They function by limiting the amount the sash can open, and allow for the override of this restriction with the push of a button. They work with both side and top-hung windows and come in 13mm and 17mm stack heights.
The Nico Restricted Egress Friction Hinges blend the features of both the standard restrictor, as well as an escape pivot to provide a simple but efficient way to meet building regulations. It is suitable for both side hung and top opening uPVC windows and comes in 17mm and 13mm stack heights. It is offered in a pair, where one hinge is restricted egress and the second is free, allowing one to be fitted at the bottom of the sash whilst the other is attached to the top.
These uPVC hinges are made to be used with windows that aren't able to be fully opened, such as a child's bedroom. The mechanism restricts the distance the sash opens to a safe position of 100mm, and re-engages once the window is closed.
As with the other types of uPVC friction hinges they can be installed on any type of window and are suitable for difficult to reach windows above ground level three-storey flats and windows that normally require a ladder for access to them. They can be paired with our range of security enhancements such as hinge guard protection plates or dog bolts to offer PAS 24 performance.
When replacing a hinge on a window, it is important to determine the length of the current hinge so you can purchase replacements that are similar in size. The easiest way to do this is by viewing the hinge in the gallery and determining the location you would like it to be placed. Top hung hinges can be restricted to both sides and side hung hinges can only be used on one side.
Standard Hinge
Standard hinges have metal-to-metal contacts and do not require any additional components to reduce friction. It's available in a variety of finishes and fire-rated. For a quick way to determine the radius of your hinge lay it flat and then line up with a quarter and dime in two corners. If the dime fits better than the quarter, the corner is rounded by 1/4 inch. If the quarter fit better, it's rounded to 5/8 inch.
The hinge you choose can enhance or break the appearance of your door. Achieving the same style and finish of the hinges to your door will give it an attractive and cohesive look.
